Caption: Mr Harry Phelps the starter in the 223rd annual sculling race , the Doggett 's Coat and Badge , which takes place over a 4 mile course from London Bridge to Chelsea Bridge. The contest was started in 1715 by Thomas Doggett who offered the prize to commemorate the accession of King George I. The winner of the race receives a red coat with a silver badge on the left arm.
